Style Guide – A Need for Tweed Suits

November 3rd, 2014

This month’s style guide is dedicated to the considerations you should make when choosing tweed suits – a staple in the style conscious, modern man’s wardrobe. The tweed cloths we carry come from some of the finest British merchants, who to this day are the envy of woollen producers across the world. These master weavers and finishers supply us with a vast array of contemporary and classic designs, in a variety of weights and covering a broad price range. All this serves to give our clients a multitude of tweed options.

Some tweed cloths are incredibly coarse and heavy, lending themselves to traditional bespoke overcoats, countrywear and shooting clothes. Durable and hardy, these are made to withstand harsh outdoor conditions and climates, and were dyed in colours to blend into the natural country surroundings when worn for hunting.

But, as times have changed so have the variety of cloths available. From the heaviest estate tweeds at 22 ounces per yard, down to relatively refined fabrics at just 11 or 12 ounces, the lighter weights will keep you warm, dry and well dressed whilst being a perfect choice for all sorts of situations through the cooler seasons. These wonderful qualities of the lighter, more modern tweed collections make them a perfect choice for everyday tweed suits. As with all cloths, it’s important to make the right choices when selecting a colour palette to compliment your skin tone.

Choose from a range of hues and shades to suit every taste and environment, including vibrant bright cloths for those who want to stand out from the crowd. Whether for relaxed weekend gatherings, country shoots or work wear, there is a weight and design for every requirement.

Tweeds suits are wonderfully versatile, especially 3 pieces are purchased. The trousers, waistcoat and jacket can each be worn individually – dressed up or dressed down to suit both smart and casual occasions. Tweed looks as good with dark denim as with the most striking shirts and bold accessories.

Wherever you are, a beautifully cut tweed suit you will give you confidence in your look. Add individuality by contrasting colour on the buttonhole thread, pocket flaps and elbow patches, or in your choice of lining. Whatever your stature, our trained tailors will guide you through the entire process, helping you to create your own individual look and select a style that best accentuates your natural physical assets.
