Suits on Film: Lockdown Playlist #1

March 27th, 2020

With our current daily dress code consisting mainly of pyjamas, sweats and athleisure wear (yes, that’s an actual thing), some of us are feeling the need for a bit of smart, sartorial respite.

In between binge watching your favourite shows on Netflix, allow us to mix things up a bit with our Suits on Film suggestions, injecting a little style inspiration to your lockdown playlists.

Posting a new selection every Friday, from staple classics to unexpected oddities and stand-out styles, each one is a feast for the eyes. Here’s the first batch to enjoy.

Check in for part two, next Friday. Add your suggestions via Instagram, using #cadsuitsonfilm.

CASABLANCA – HUMPHREY BOGART & PAUL HENREID

Rick’s elegant white dinner jacket, in this WWII romantic drama, is without doubt Bogart’s best known cinematic look. However, Victor Lazlo is not to be ignored, with a series of stand out suits befitting his character’s rebel status.

THE GREAT GATSBY – ROBERT REDFORD

The suits are the stars In this 1974 adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald’s Jazz Age novel. Ralph Lauren designed the wardrobe of white, pastel, flannel and contrast colour suits. A truly stunning blend of 1920s tailoring with a dose of 1970s flair.

NORTH BY NORTHWEST – CARY GRANT

A strong contender for the most iconic suit in cinema, Alfred Hitchcock kept the styling on this simple grey suit as timeless as possible in his 1959 thriller. It’s only the looser cut that really distinguishes it from today’s slimmer silhouettes. With every wardrobe needing a staple grey suit, you could do a lot worse than taking some starter inspiration here.
