Weddings and wedding suits.

Last weekend we were approached to give a talk on the catwalk of the National Wedding Show on each of its three days on Wedding suits and tailoring. The show was run in conjunction with Caryn Franklin and Jane Galpin of Ten years younger fame!

Wedding shows are normally the realm of the bride and her family and friends with the odd future husband dragging his heels. Its not surprising really when the stands at these events seem to all be aimed for the female market.

However the women and those men that were in the audience were incredibly appreciative for some of the attention being aimed at them. Far too often it seems that the immediate thought for the Groom and his party is to hire the morning and or wedding suits.

What is a Dandy? Everyone has a reaction to the word “dandy” but how many have actually ruminated on the term and its meanings? It may be that the actual term is far too complex to ever fully understand. That the meaning of “dandy” may forever elude definition and might require volumes of study for even the most basic understanding. What we do know, is that when he appears with a carnation in his lapel he excites notice and comment. The secure are pleased, the jealous are overly inquisitive and those who feel inadequate make their minds up that this is frivolity itself.

Building a tie collection!!

Collecting, a friend of mine observed, is a pastime of the idle. It is, so they told me, a sign of man’s excessive productivity. Unsurprisingly, my friend and I differ in our opinions regarding man’s wants and needs. Naturally, in a world without the paraphernalia we are surrounded with, I need merely shelter, an animal skin or two to keep warm and perhaps the Promethean luxury of fire. However, man has evolved. We don’t live in that minimalist culture. We live, in the western world, in a time of abundance. Whereas our ancient ancestors might have braved wind and rain for an uncooked bite of deer, we have not only beautifully cooked, and aged, meat, but meat substitute.

Introducing Winston!

As promised we are unveiling the first of our ‘Guest’ writers, people who are not employed by us but who are either fashion writers or people in the tailoring industry with the aim to help answers questions, give advice and generally create articles worth reading.

The first writer is Winston Chesterfield: Winston is a 25 year old style journalist and blogger. Despite pursuing a legal education, professional music performance and conference production, he gave in to a long held passion for elegant clothing and became a weekly columnist for Mensflair.com also with a strong following on his own blog he is a perfect addition to the writing team.
